Latest News – Updated January 23rd, 2021

Since the Indo borders closed again on January 1st, and many of our guests checked out in the middle of January, we’ve ended up having our quietest January in years! But now, we have back-to-back swells on the way, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more surfers soon!

A tropical low off Western Australia has been influencing the winds, but this is forecasted to dissipate during next week, and by Saturday 30th January, light and variable winds are forecasted, with prime swells lining up for February!

An earlier swell from Monday 25th is also expected to produce fun waves through the week, and there is also the potential to depart to Macaronis from Padang on the overnight Ferry Tuesday 26th, for anybody who would like to arrive a bit earlier!

Tide Charts show a minimum of 1 meter of tide every day throughout February, March and April, meaning Greenbush sessions could be abundant, when-ever there is a South swell and variable or N-NW winds. So keep an eye on the forecast, and make the most of potential Greenbush sessions coming up!

From Saturday, January 30th, we have morning high tides and Swell from the South, so we’re aiming for some Greenbush action to kick-start this run of back-to-back epic swells in February!

Check the Swell and Wind at these pages, or check Windy at the bottom of our surf forecast page (also with links to other forecasts), which shows the tropical low moving away, with swell lined up all the way to South Africa, so don’t miss this run of Swell!

Indonesia’s international border closure is extended until at least February 8th, so now is the time to make the most of surfing epic waves just with a few friends, before international surfers begin arriving once again.

Indonesia is likely to re-open its borders in time for the peak tourist season after its vaccination program has been underway at least 6-8 weeks, so February is going to be a prime time to hit Macaronis for surfers already in Indonesia, while there are few surfers to share it with.

Advice If Traveling from Overseas or within Indonesia

A negative COVID-19 PCR test will be required to enter Indonesia once the borders re-open and to stay at Macaronis Resort. Refer to Circular Letter No. 5561/22/Disparpora (Mentawai Govt. Tourism Dept.): Indo1 / Indo2 / English

If travelling from Bali, we recommend booking an appointment with Dr Retno Safitri (Siloam Hospital) on +62 81916247778 (available on WA). PCR Testing is between 7.00 am – 9.00 am with the results ready in 3 days. The cost is Rp.900.000 (about USD 60.00).

Half the regular price for our packages and empty line-ups more than makes up for the requirement to be tested while remaining a responsible and healthy traveller and staying safe!

New E-Visas Now Available (unavailable until February 8th, until further notice)

Indonesia’s immigration department has released a new E-Visa system to replace the old telex visa process.

This means you no longer need to visit a consulate or embassy outside of Indonesia before entry. Instead, you can have your E-visa processed online in only 2-3 days, and travel directly to Indonesia to have your passport processed on entry.

Our current discounted rates were designed to subsidize the USD 495 visa fee for foreigners to enter Indonesia. For those living in Indonesia, it’s an absolute no brainer to visit now, while the borders remain closed, to take advantage of both the 50% Off rates, a free spot for the 6th surfer (limited spots!), and the least crowded surfing conditions we’ve seen in 30 years!

For Australians, the travel ban is still in place by the Australian government, yet subject to the borders re-opening, we are able to assist those intending to spend more than 3 months away to secure a travel permit to depart Australia, as well as having a visa to visit Indonesia.

Send us an email and we can let you know what is the best method for you to obtain a business or social visa to visit Indonesia and the pre-requisites for a travel permit to depart Australia, depending on your circumstances. For further info email [email protected]

We are taking every precaution to make sure our staff, guests, and the local community remains safe. Please read and follow these Tips for Health and Safety for when travelling to or from Macaronis Resort.
