Flight Information

Book Flights to: Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia; Minangkabau International Airport (PDG)

Your international flight should arrive at one of these airports in order to get to Padang:

1. Jakarta, Indonesia, Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK)

— or —

2. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)

— or —

3. Singapore, Changi International Airport (SIN)

From Jakarta (CGK) Fly direct to Padang (PDG) with Garuda Airlines or with Lion Air.

From Kuala Lumpur (KUL) Fly direct to Padang (PDG) with www.AirAsia.com.

From Singapore (SIN) Fly direct to Padang (PDG) with www.AirAsia.com.

If you are traveling to or from Bali (DPS) domestic, we recommend flying via Jakarta (CGK), or you can also fly through KUL with Air Asia.

We do not recommend flying via Batam (BTH) from Bali to Padang with Lion Air (a later and seemingly more attractive flight), because the airline is often delayed and one can find themselves stranded in Batam, missing the ferry. A connection through Jakarta is always safest as there are many alternative flights.

If needing a night in KUL, we recommend Tune Hotel located at terminal 2 www.klairporthotel.com/tune-hotel-klia2/.

Once you arrive to PDG airport we will pick you up and handle everything from there!

NOTE: Air Asia has commenced flights from Singapore to Padang, which is suitable to depart to Mentawai on the same day departing 08.55 and arriving 09.15 in Padang, but on return from Mentawai, one would need to have an additional night in Padang if using this flight option, with departure from Padang at 09.40 am and arriving at 11.55.

Domestic Flight Booking Assistance

Domestic carriers, Lion Air, Garuda Airlines and Citilink (Garuda’s low cost carrier) do not accept some foreign credit cards for purchasing tickets directly through their websites. If you have any trouble booking flights with international credit cards on these airlines, look for tickets on www.nusatrip.com or www.ticket.com

For a domestic flight booking agent, we recommend contacting Rudi Khelces at Email: klc_agass@yahoo.com who is a reliable, English speaking travel agent in Padang.

Surfboard Bag Policies

International: We recommend Emirates coming from East Coast USA (JFK) and Europe, and Singapore Airlines coming from Los Angeles (LAX). From Australia Garuda is one of the best, but there are many options. Both Emirates and Singapore Airlines include Surfboards as check in baggage.

For Europeans, More info Here: http://www.carvemag.com/2017/01/2017-surfers-airline-baggage-fees-guide/

For Others, More info Here: http://indosurflife.com/2017/01/2017-airline-surfboard-boardbag-fee-guide-for-surfers/

Within Asia:

Garuda: Surfboards fly free on Garuda Airlines! View Baggage Details Here

Air Asia: Sports equipment (including surfboard bags) is charged by kg and can be paid for on Air Asia.com at the time of booking for reasonable rates. Tip: Pay extra online to account for extra weight, they charge 4x the amount at the check-in counter.

Lion Air: The first 2 surfboards are free per person as long as they are within your baggage limit. They may request you to open your bag and count your boards. Additional charges apply per board over the free 2 boards. Check their website for current fees.
