Our staff remains vigilant and safe at Macaronis Resort, while there is still only one confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Northern region of the Mentawai Islands. We have received a new notification letter from the Mentawai Regional Government dated April 17th, regarding the continuation of lockdown, and no surfing allowed until May 29th, or until further notice. As the situation continues to change so rapidly, we will continue to give updates during this period.

We have recently had a meeting with our staff, who have agreed to get some shots of the empty perfect surf gracing our shoreline and the coral-fringed reefs during this time. We would like to keep our followers up to date, and it surely is a remarkable sight to behold, seeing such perfect surf breaking without a soul in sight. We are expecting medium-sized surf this week, but toward the end of next week around April 25th, we are expecting a round of solid swells hitting that should be all time to watch, and mind surf.

Most of our employees have decided to stay at Macaronis Resort during this period, while we remain in hibernation mode. It is comforting to know our facilities will remain maintained and ready for our new planned re-opening date of Friday, May 29th. Like everybody else in a similar situation, this gives us an opportunity to catch up on those smaller jobs that we have been putting off, and put everything in its place, in readiness for the resumption of operations.

We are pleased to have the support of our employees taking care of one and other, and ensuring all precautions are taken to keep the local community safe. We are most appreciative of our guests that have been booked, who have suffered such inconveniences and have been hit by financial difficulties, needing to change their travel plans at such short notice. We are thankful most affected in the short term have now rescheduled and it means we will be busy when re-opening again from late May / early June onward, and in year 2021.

In terms of bookings, it’s pleasing to see our surf coaching clinics are filling steadily, showing confidence that by January 2021, this episode will be over. It is expected that with people keen to travel again, and currently clients needing to move their bookings forward, spots will be limited in the future. Our 16th Birthday “2 for 1” Never to be Repeated Specials have been extremely popular, so don’t forget to book your spot before the end of April, or while spots last.

We will continue to give updates via our social media channels, and when there is significant news, then we will release a news post to this News Updates page. We still have some all-time New Release video clips from February 21st – March 20th, so stay tuned to dial into some epic sessions at Macaronis and surrounding breaks coming up!

Sincerely,

Management
