OUR NEW ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS
Pagai Foundation is proud to introduce three environmental programs, in partnership with Macaronis Resort.
The Pagai Foundation was founded by Eghardt Brand with a simple belief: A healthy community and a healthy environment must grow together.
In the beginning, the foundation focused mainly on medical and health programs, helping local communities in the Pagai Islands gain access to basic healthcare and support.
Over time, we realized something important:
The ocean, the reefs, the mangroves, and the beaches around us are not just beautiful—they are essential to life here.
• They protect the coastline
• They support local fishing communities
• And they make experiences like your stay here possible
Our New Environmental Programs
Today, Pagai Foundation is proud to introduce three environmental programs in partnership with Macaronis Resort. These programs allow conservation and tourism to work side by side.
1. Coral Planting
Coral reefs are the heart of our ocean ecosystem.
Through coral planting:
• We help restore damaged reefs
• Support marine life and fish populations
• And protect the natural beauty of Mentawai for future generations
Healthy reefs mean healthy oceans.
2. Mangrove Planting
Mangroves are nature’s guardians. They:
• Protect the coastline from erosion and storms
• Store large amounts of carbon
• And provide safe habitats for marine life
By planting mangroves, we protect both villages and the sea.
3. Beach Clean-Up from Plastic
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to our oceans.
Our beach clean-up program focuses on:
• Removing plastic waste
• Educating local communities
• And inviting guests to be part of the solution
A clean beach is not just more beautiful—it saves marine life.
None of this would be possible without Macaronis Resort.
The resort actively supports:
• Logistics and organization
• Guest participation
• Long-term commitment to sustainability
This is what responsible tourism looks like—enjoying paradise while helping protect it.
How You Can Be Involved
As guests, you are already part of this story.
You can:
• Join beach clean-up activities
• Learn about coral and mangrove conservation
• Share awareness and respect for this environment
Even small actions make a big difference.
The Pagai Foundation’s reef transplant program is supported by academic partners such as Bung Hatta University in Padang, where marine science experts like Dr. Harfiandri Damanhuri are collaborating as advisers and field partners in the coral restoration work around Siniai Island. This partnership brings scientific expertise to the project, helping guide the selection of coral species, transplant techniques, and long-term monitoring — blending community conservation, research, and sustainable tourism to support reef recovery for future generations.
